In an ongoing effort to honor past leaders who have made substantial contributions to Westchester County, County Executive George Latimer, on September 13, rededicated the Edwin G. Michaelian Office Building in White Plains in honor of Edwin G. Michaelian. Present on the occasion were Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan, Primate of the Eastern Diocese, Fr. Mesrob Hovsepyan, and dignitaries and friends from our parish and the community.
In Michaelian’s honor, Latimer bestowed the Edwin G. Michaelian Award for a Distinguished Public Official upon Nancy Kaboolian, the highest-ranking Armenian American elected official in Westchester and mayor of Ardsley, and the Edwin G. Michaelian Award for Public Service upon John M. Vorperian, Esq., for his contributions to Armenian history and culture in the county. Mr. Michaelian was the 4th and longest serving Westchester County executive, whose time in office (1958-1973) coincided with the critical post-war boom, and brought him into contact with such figures as President Eisenhower (seen here seated next to Mr. Michaelian) and then-Vice President Nixon. The building dedicated in his name was built 40 years ago, following Edwin’s death. Its re-dedication on September 13 coincided with a celebration of Armenian culture, contribution, and community in Westchester County. “Edwin Michaelian was a man of vision, leadership, and service, and his legacy continues to shine brightly in Westchester County,” the Primate said in remarks. “It was inspiring to reflect on how Armenians like Edwin have woven their heritage and values into the fabric of American life, fostering civic responsibility and resilience. May this building be a symbol of service, unity, and compassion for all who walk through its doors.”
