The choir of St. Gregory is comprised of a group of dedicated non-professional singers who voluntarily bring their contributions to the glorious celebration of our Divine Liturgy. The choir sings the Yegmalian version of the liturgical hymns in three part harmony.
We welcome new members to sing with us with an open invitation. There are no auditions! The only requirements are dedication and a good ear. You don’t even need to know how to read music – you just need to be able to follow direction. Many of our choir members have been singing for several years and have learned the hymns of our Badarak by heart.
The choir is led by Deacon Mirijohn Givelekian who has been serving as Choir Director since 1999. Prior to his tenure at St Gregory, he served as Choir Director in his former parish of Holy Martyrs in Bayside, NY for over ten years.
Deacon Mirijohn has been serving in the Armenian church since he was a young boy in his native Istanbul, Turkey. His wife Anoush serves as Assistant Director and chairperson.
In addition to singing every Sunday, our members sing our ancient hymns on holidays and for funerals and weddings. If you feel that you are ready to put your singing talent to good use, please feel free to approach our Choir Director for more information.
We encourage men and women to join our choir so that we can become a choir that sings in FOUR part harmony.
