On Saturday, June 25th, we hosted a painting workshop on the art of the Armenian letters led by Rev. Fr. Garabed Kochakian. About 20 participants ages 8 and up attended the event. The workshop included a power point presentation and a discussion about the history of the Armenian alphabet and how our Ayp,Pen,Kim functions linguistically, artistically and numerically in the tradition of the Armenian Illuminated Manuscripts.
Fr. Garabed presented examples of the decorative capital letters with their unique Armenian forms, all hand written and painted by scribes and Icon-Miniaturists. The participants then learned some techniques of painting the ornate Armenian alphabet letters, which they later applied to paint their own works. It was a great educational and fun workshop, which will be remembered by the participants.
